In the photo one can see the ancient residencies curved in the rock in order to protect from hostile attacks but also to exert themselves into primitive way of life like the one Jesus himself experienced in the desert. Most of them are churches dug in the rock with beautiful wall paintings.

Although this one's really fine I'd prefer the more "mixed up" version.

This is a vey good scene showing the placs where people lived and worshipped.
It also shows the size of thesee great outcrops of rock well.
