Hi Jessica,I think the tighter crop of the second upload helps.
My suggestions were really aimed at a future photo for you to keep in mind when composing a shot. Think about what you want in focus and out of focus and what's behind your main subject.

This father & son moment has great potential but there are a few things I might change with this shot as it stands ...I find the background too distracting - try cropping tighter, blurring or darkening / vignette the background to throw attention on the subject.
