Welcome gate to Mae Sariang
The small district town of Mae Sariang sits in a picturesque location on a largely undeveloped riverside, surrounded by forested hills and paddy-filled valleys. The town still possesses plenty of old teak buildings, a handful of Burmese/Shan-style wats, some fine accommodation choices and... well, it’s just a great glimpse of traditional, small-town Thailand.
The small town is my perfect starting point for tours inside the Salawin National Park and to picturesque temple complexes where the building are contructed in northern style and represents the westernmost area where Lanna culture and architecture dominated which also well assimilated with Burmese/ Shan.

Diese welcome gates haben ja viele kleine Städte, eine schöne Sitte.Mae Sariang ist schon schön und nicht touristisch. Dabei lohnt es sich durchaus von Chiang Mai über Pai und Soppong nach Mae Hong Son und von dort über Mae Sariang zurück nach Chiang Mai eine Rundtour zu machen und in allen Orten ein paar Tage zu bleiben oder eben Ausflüge in die jeweilige Umgebung zu machen. Manch einer - wie mein Freund in Soppong - bleibt dann sogar für immer dort.
