The Silvereye or Wax-eye (Zosterops lateralis) is a very small passerine bird native to Australia, New Zealand and the south-west Pacific islands of Lord Howe, New Caledonia, Loyalty Islands, Vanuatu, and Fiji
In Australia and New Zealand its common name is sometimes shortened to White-eye.
Gesehen auf 260 m Höhe des inaktiven Vulkans Rangitoto (Vulkaninsel im Hauraki-Golf, Auckland).
Der Name „Rangitoto“ stammt von den Maori. Denn der Kapitän (Tama-te-kapua) des Kanus Arawa ist auf der Insel schwer verletzt worden, was in Te Reo Maori soviel bedeutet wie „Te Rangi i totongia a Tamatekapua“ („Die Tage des Blutens von Tama-te-kapua“).
