The Platte River

This is a very important river in terms of Nebraska history, in terms of aviary and human needs. It provides a source of water for migrating sand hill cranes and many other birds as well as serving mans need for irrigation and drinking water.
Over five hundred thousand sandhill cranes plus huge numbers of other water fowl have made this a major stop over to eat before departing for their nesting grounds.
This shot was taken looking down stream from the Fort Kearny walking trail about midway across the Platte River.. It is running low due to several recent years of drouth.
