The Living Forest (473) : Common Redstart
The common redstart (or often simply redstart) is a small passerine bird that prefers to live in open mature birch and oak woodland.
In my picture below you can see a picture of a black redstart. Genetically these 2 birds are fairly compatible both having a striking orange-red tail, from which it got its name ("start" is an old word for "tail").
My picture shows a female redstart.
Dutch name : Gekraagde roodstaart
German name : Gartenrotschwanz
Latin name : Phoenicurus phoenicurus
