Stephan I. der Heilige (ungarisch: Szent István) war ein magyarischer Fürst aus der Dynastie der Árpáden und von 1000 bis 1038 erster König des von ihm begründeten Königreiches Ungarn. Er gilt als der Nationalheilige des heutigen Ungarn und christianisierte die heidnischen Magyaren. Sein Denkmal auf der Budaer Burg befindet sich auf dem Platz zwischen der Fischerbastei und der Matthiaskirche. Die Reiterstatue wurde 1906 errichtet. Ihr Designer war Alajos Stróbl.
Stephen I the Saint (Hungarian: Szent István) was a Magyar prince from the Árpád dynasty and the first king of the kingdom of Hungary, which he founded, from 1000 to 1038. He is considered the national saint of today’s Hungary and Christianised the pagan Magyars. His monument at Buda Castle is located on the square between the Fishermen’s Bastion and Matthias Church. The equestrian statue was erected in 1906. Its designer was Alajos Stróbl.
