Rivers, pints of stout and hair have all been turned green in honour of St Patrick’s Day in the past – but we’ve never heard of a football stadium changing colour for Ireland’s national celebration.

But that’s exactly what German giants Bayern Munich did this Paddy’s Day. 12 LED floodlights did bathe the distinctive panels that encase the Allianz Arena in a green glow.

It’s not the only building that went green, though, with the London Eye, the Pyramids of Giza, the statue of Christ the Redeemer overlooking Rio de Janeiro and the Leaning Tower of Pisa also part of the Tourism Ireland initiative.
