    Hallo Dorothée
    Even if your are new to photography, you are doing very well.
    May i suggest that you use the “P” setting instead of the Auto program.
    That will allow you to choose either the Aperture (control over the depth of field) or the Speed (control over sharpness) and the other one will adjust automatically.
    There are four elements in composing a picture...Lines, Colours, Shapes and Arrangements. You seem to have some naturel talent at using these principles instintively. Learn about the “Rule of thirds” which is a must in all visual arts.
