Lady Liberty

The Lady with the torch opened to the public on this date (October 28) in 1886.

Shortly after lifting off from the Downtown New York Heliport on the East River, we were over New York’s broad harbor and eye-to-eye with Lady Liberty. How powerful to view Bartholdi’s eloquent sculpture from this special perspective and to see the 24 carat gold of her restored torch gleaming in the late day sunshine.
