J Train Departing Marcy Avenue

As the sky begins to clear after the passage of a summer storm, a Manhattan-bound J train departs
Marcy Avenue station, causing the track-side signal to go to red to indicate the block ahead is occupied.

At the far right, the modern New Technology train of R-160 cars is entering the S-curve that will
take it onto the Williamsburg Bridge, one of whose towers is seen just above the signal array.

The train originated at Jamaica Center in Queens; the setting is the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn.

Photographer’s Note: While I love everything about these comfortable and quiet new trains, there is one aspect that tends to frustrate – the new route designating symbols at front and back of trains absolutely flummox even the most sophisticated of my cameras, resulting in "incomplete" circles around the route number or letter. This is probably due to the refresh frequency of the LEDs that make up the electronic display. Thus, while they appear "solid" to the human eye...well, the camera knows better ;-) Hopefully, during my next visit to NYC, I will find a shutter speed slow enough to mimic the human eye but fast enough to freeze a moving subway train!
So, in case you were wondering, this J train's display is not faulty, nor is this one of the “new” CJ trains!!!
