Highland cattle

Highland cattle are an ancient Scottish breed of cattle with striking long horns and black or reddish-brown wavy coats.
The breed was developed in the Scottish Highlands and the breeding stock has been exported to the rest of the world since the early 20th century.

Highland cattle are known as a hardy breed due to the rugged nature of their native land with high rainfall and very strong winds.

In Belgium, they are often used year round as help in nature reserves to increase the diversity of the landscape by its very sophisticated way of grazing.
It’s a social, friendly animal that requires little care and can adapt trouble free to extreme icy cold temperatures in winter.

Their hair gives protection during the cold winters and their skill in looking for food allows them to survive even in steep mountain areas (central Europe, Canada).
They graze and eat plants which many other cattle avoid.

A real handsome animal to my taste !
