Castle ‘Jemeppe’ at Hargimont (Belgium)

In the 13th century, this castle consisted solely of a square donjon that was built with a double purpose : as a residence and as a means of defence in times of war.

In the 17th century, 3 wings were added to the fortified tower and formed the quadrilateral castle that can still be admired today.

Extensive renovation works were carried out at the beginning of the 19th century.
But times changed in the 20th century and it became impossible for the owners to maintain this huge castle and a disastrous decay began.
The castle was abandoned and fell into complete ruin.

But fortunately, the castle rose again from its ashes.
During 14 years (1997 – 2011) the whole castle was meticulously rebuilt and restored to its former glory.
