Beacon of Felgueiras

The Beacon of Felgueiras, on the right bank of the Douro River, is a Portuguese lighthouse is located at the tip of the jetty with the same name, in the parish of Foz do Douro, Porto City.
It is a hexagonal tower in granite masonry, about ten feet high. It has balcony and red lantern, and a small annex building with plastered and whitewashed walls.
The term "Water of Felgueiras" was awarded because it was built towards the stone Felgueiras, that lies to the west border.
Before disabling the beacon had a range of 9 nm, emitting a red lightning every 5 seconds.
history
1790 - beginning of the jetty construction work; on 15 February, Reinaldo Oudinot by royal charter is responsible for directing the work related to the opening of the Porto bar, from the mouth of the river to the city.
1886 - Construction of the beacon.
1945 - Beacon modernization work for Felgueiras, thus making unnecessary the lighthouse lady of light.
1979 - began the automation of Beacon of Felgueiras at the entrance of the Douro bar and rear lights of the port of Leixões (Breakwater, Water North and South Mole). These tail lights, came to be controlled remotely from the Leca da Palmeira Lighthouse, using equipment designed for this purpose. It was the first network of remote controlled tail lights of the Portuguese coast.

2009 - Disabled, keeping in operation the buzzer.
