Taken as a pair (the two images of the same scene in autumn and in winter), two things strike me (beyond the beauty of the images and their technical quality). First is the amazing contrast between the glass-like smoothness of the water upstream from the rapids and the turbulence downstream. Clearly the water is flowing but the surface remains mirror smooth. Second is the consistency of the shapes of the water waves (smoothed out by the long exposures) in the two pictures. Perhaps it is because of consistent rates of flow in the stream. Still, very striking.
