Tingwall
Der Name dieses Tals verweist auf die Stätte, an der jährlich das Althing der Shetlands stattfand. Der Thingplatz lag auf einer kleinen Insel ganz am hinteren Ende des 2. Sees (Tingwall Loch). Das weiße Gebäude im Bildmittelgrund ist die neuzeitlich Tingwall Church. Unmittelbar daneben ist bis heute die Krypta der alten Kirche erhalten, die - wesentlich größer und mit zwei Rundtürmen ausgestattet - lange Zeit Sitz der Erzdiakone für Shetland des Bistums Orkney war.

Looking north I am about 50m east of the Tingwall road.
Shot either from 1988 or 1991 ?
... give us some pics from this years Up Helly Aa, please. The squad is said to have some extraordinary outfit ... ;-)

This is an old one of Tingwall what year ??There is a 9 hole golf course here now !!
