On the farm (6) : The last 200...!

At first sight, one might think these are just 2 ordinary milk cows. Not so !

These 2 animals belong to the Campine Red Pied Bovine, an ancient Belgian breed of cattle that dates from the beginning of the 19th century.

Many old breeds are already totally extinct and unfortunately also this striking breed is close to its end as it is no longer profitable in modern intensive agriculture (too less milk).
Hardly 200 (!) animals of this beautiful breed are still alive nowadays, thanks to a few faithful breeders, and I could shoot 2 specimen of them.

Latin name : Bos taurus
