My biggest challenge in b&w conversion.......

......I have converted several stained glass window in the past 10 years and I never was quite satisfied with the results, they didn't seem to give a very true representation to all the colors and shades of color in the colored version of the image, so I challenged myself to see it I could do it to where I was satisfied. I used my gaming computer with both HD monitors with b&w on one and color on the other, I worked on them at 100% increase in size from original high resolution cropped image, I took it color by color, shade by shade and made sure the grey scale was just a little different for each, it took me 6 hours over the last few days, but I really have a deep appreciation for the film photographers who had to do this in the darkrooms and onsite with the use of multiple filters etc., I am happy with this one and I hope that you like it too.....
****** Please remember this was not done to compete with a color version, but to produce better grey-scale images ******

Thanks for stopping by, all comments are appreciated.......

This is a great image in that it has such tonal range and sharpness. I wish I had 6 hours to spend on one image these days, maybe when I retire in a few years. Excellent work, I admire your drive to get this done.
    Regards,
    Archie

simply great ... black and white is the right way to show this! only the colours in special light could show this better, but in this way, you are on the right way

Superb work Dennis, this is one hell of a conversion, and you have etained the many different tones , the sharpness and the details perfectly........
Now I am going to ask a question good buddy...Why???
The true beauty of any stained glass window is the colour as the light pours through it.... so why.
You know that I love b/w, but even I have to admit that some things are best left in colour :))

Have a great weekend with the lovely Bee....
