Happy 13 Be-dar :)

Tehran 13.1.1391

Sizdah Be-dar (in English: Getting rid of the Thirteenth) is the name of a ceremony in Persian Culture. Sizdah is the Persian term for thirteen. Leaving the house on the Thirteenth Day of Farvardin (the first month of Iranian calendar), and joyfully spending the day outdoors have been a national tradition since ancient times in Iran.

Persian Festival of "Joy and Solidarity". The 13th and last day of Nowruz celebration. Because of the end of twelve days (a sample of twelve month) they celebrate the 13th day as a new beginning of the next twelve month and it has no relations with the number 13 (as an unlucky number). It is celebrated outdoors along with the beauty of nature.

A good idea to bring everyone outside to celebrate together in the sun (hopefully!) I can see that many people have been there for quite a while camping with their little colourful tents up. I hope you had a great party!

The peoples of our planet must know themselves, with their history and traditions. Every people can learn in this way and become richest in the mind and have a new look about far realties.

Like that and only like that we can built a world of peace and brotherhood and respect for each other.

Great work : congratulations Sepideh. +++++

i agree with marco: it's so great to get to know more and more about your fascinating traditions! so much to see and to discover in this shot of yours! never knew (ignorant me! ; )) that tehran was surrounded by those majestic snow-capped mountains – a splendid view, worth celebrating on an extra day… ; ))) and a great view of the city, too! so many people out there to celebrate! some even brought colorful little tents – all set for a happy picnic, i suppose. my favorite tiny details: the man on the lawn in the foreground staring into the air, following an invisible kite with his eyes, and the dad and tiny toddler a little further to the right! hugs and happy 13 be-dar, sepideh! sabine

    Salam Sepideh,

Fantastic view over the city and the crowd.
The smart people have brought a tent.
Surely it was still quite cold there?
    Best wishes - A.
