Since 1989 the town has been a member of the IAPMC -The International Association of Peace Messenger Cities, that was established to recognize and encourage the role and responsibility cities have in creating a culture of peace..
The General Assembly of the IAPMC was held in Slovenj Gradec, Slovenia on October 24-26th, 2012.
