    tyypical, I think you can't find a hedge like this in Germany

      There are very long hedges like this all around the gardens at montacute house. Interestingly - I was unable to take a picture of the employees actually trimming the hedge - because visitors were continually interrupting them for a talk. (They were probably saying "That looks a big job"). The staff are, I think, trained to answer these repeated interruptions, patiently and politely.
      One of the reasons that montacute house is probably my favourite National Trust property - is that the house features in the 1995 film "Sense and sensibility" (Kate Winslet, High Grant and Emma thompson). It features in climactic scenes towards the end of the film.
