A Postcard and Message from The Sunny Side of Queensland!!

Greetings to all my family and friends after a long spell from the net!!
Thank you all, for the 243 e-mails and FC comments I received during my absence from the net.
Well I am on the sunny-side of Queensland, yes I am in Cairns, Brisbane was wet and cold but the temperatures here are 28 degrees, more my weather.
I have spent some quality time with my Son David and his dear lady Kim.
No sooner had we arrived at their abode, when plans were set in motion to go on a camping trip far from the madding crowds.
We travelled a couple of hundred kilometres North of Brisbane to Lake Borumba.
Here we set up camp, in a beautiful wooded area, with many large stands of timbers, there were Jacarandas, Norfolk Pines and Indian Coral trees in bloom.
There were also a number of the natives growing here including huge Gum trees.
The area once was a natural river, but has since been converted to a dam with a spillway so the river may continue on its natural course.
It was so peaceful with many birds visiting at meal times, hoping for a morsel to eat.
There were also a few families of pretty faced Wallabies
The only sounds we heard was laughter from 1 tent at night and a rather funny story.
One fellow dressed as a real bushman, tough and rugged , tried to split some mill ends of timber one night, I listened with great interest as he hacked away blow after blow without an ounce of success, I am sure he used the back of the axe.
I was ready to offer to split all of his wood, when he suddenly surrendered and went to sleep.
Our daylight was spent chasing fish on the lake, Kim landed the first, and fish landed were Murray River Cod, Bass and Perch.
Only one fish was taken from the lake, others were released.
One evening we were treated, to a roast prepared by Kim and David in his Dutch camp oven, roast beef and mixed vegetables in the fresh air, my kind tucker!!
After packing up our camping gear, we visited a rural property belonging to Kim’s Brother, Clinton, Debbie, Matthew and Tiana.
Here we were invited to a fairdinkum Aussie BBQ breakfast; Kim’s Parents Carol and Tim were at the breakfast as well.
After a trip around the property, we were treated to a feed of Macadamia Nuts, fresh from the trees.
Then on the road for the trip home.
I would just like to thank all for their kindness and hospitality during our stay, bless you all!!
We are now in Cairns, yet another 1700 kilometres along the track, next week we will travel on up the hill to Ravenshoe to visit my Daughter Wendy.
Will be back on the air soon, so best wishes to you all.

Walkabout-John.
