Santa Maria Maggiore
This Basilica of Roma was built in the 4th century A.D., rebuilt in the 13th century and remodelled in the Classical period. Its Romanesque brick campanile (year 1377) is the tallest in Roma. The majestic Baroque main façade dates from 1743 by Ferdinando Fuga. The interior wich has kept its original basilical plan, has a pavement by the Cosmati (13th century). The magnificent coffered celling is 16th century. The walls of the aisles of the triumphal arch and of the apse are covered with mosaics. There is also a Balaquin by Bernini.
