Su di me

I grew up and still live in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. It is a northern community in the Boreal Forest, at the confluence of the Athabasca River and the Clearwater River. This means I am surrounded by nature!

I am not a professional photographer, but taking pictures and photo editing are my favorite hobbies (after playing with my children). I use a Canon EOS 500D or Rebel T1i. This is my first DSLR, so I am still learning how to use it! Enjoy the photos I take with it!

If you have any pointers, please share them wtih me! I have an amazing view of the Northern Lights in winter and want to photograph them!

Thanks for the comment. The picture was taken on a path through the Ellice Swamp Conservation area. This is about a fifteen minute drive from where I live. If you Google “Ellice Swamp” you’ll get to the web page about it. http://www.thamesriver.on.ca/Wetlands_and_Natural_Areas/ellice_gadshill_swamps.htm
I Photoshopped the image to get what I wanted, but it is still close to what the scene looked like when I took the picture.

Of course it is Medicine Lake, the mysterious lake. Thanks for your hint.

    Regarding the Edmonton Skyline:
Yes, this picture was taken south of Edmonton Downtown (Sasketchewan Drive).

Thanks for the comment; I’ve been using Canon cameras since 1976.
Bought an Eos 50d in December.
    Photo tips,
Buy a tripod, something strong but light, does not have to be most expensive.
Make sure tripod head will hold your camera and lens firmly.
If you shoot the northern lights or you want to put yourself in the picture using the self timer, you’ll want a steady, none moving camera and that means a tripod.
Set the ISO on your camera at the lowest, 100, or the lowest you can for the circumstances, you get a better picture.
Experiment with the aperture priority, shutter priority, and manual modes on your camera until you become familiar with them, you’ll get more pleasure from the images you can create with these modes rather than the Auto modes.
Take as many pictures as you can, just goof off as much as you can, you learn more that way.
You don’t have to keep all your pictures. After you’ve looked at them erase the ones that you don’t like or don’t want.
Get a photo editing software like Photoshop elements, I myself have the Photoshop CS4, but that is expensive, learn how to enhance your good pictures beyond the basics, you’ll be surprised with how this will improve your enjoyment of the camera.

    Hi Heidi!

Taking about distance.... when I tell my friends here in Germany that we have to drive 50 km to town to grocery shop they cant believe it. For us its nothing, 35 minutes.
It takes me longer to get to work here in Cologne every morning.

    Take care!

    Hi Heidi!

    Great Northern Light shot!

I am going to move to Lac La Biche next year.
(Immigrating from Germany). Not too far away from
    Fort McMurray, right?

    Take care!
