Mertola

Mertola is located in Alentejo Province, South Portugal and has one of the oldest Castles in the Country, part of Middle Age defense belt.
Built on the River Guadiana right bank was also in the past a very important Roman settlement.

In the picture we can see the Castle and fortification walls as well the village inside of them and painted in typical Alentejo white.
