Black-crowned night heron (in the mist)

The black-crowned night heron is a medium-sized heron that occurs in a broad range of fresh-, brackish- and salt-water habitats.
In Belgium however, it's very rare.

This solitary bird is usually hunting in the dark, but I was lucky enough to spot one in the early morning mist.

Like any heron, it waits motionless for its prey in or along the water.

Dutch name : Kwak
German name : Nachtreiher
Latin name : Nycticorax nycticorax
