Your answer is right, but for a wrong reason. Although I and all Italian women thank you for your appreciation: thank you! :-)) The reason is hiking shoes and backpack, an unmistakable sign of Germanic nationality. German tourists are generally very sporty and go for very long, tiring walks and then they are rightly hot and soak their feet.Whereas Italians are more beach/tanning enthusiasts and are generally equipped with all the beach gear (sunbeds, towels, sunscreen, umbrellas...etc).
