wow great shot.
love the rocks, great foreground and the sky is quite dramatic.
well done
j:)

Ruud van der Lubben, 21.12.2005 alle 9:31

I like the tone on the rocks in the foreground very much, it looks very lively. The sky and the horizon seem a bit overdone to me, did you do any editing on them ?

Marcel Fujcik, 21.12.2005 alle 19:14

UFF, SUPER PHOTO

Daniela Friedrich, 21.12.2005 alle 23:08

The stones in the foregroundare realy great, the sky for me is to much edited. But I think that is your stile and art is something individual and not all people can like the same.

Dominic Falcone, 22.12.2005 alle 0:21

I liked this very much, and disagree about the sky as it suits the whole sureal look of the shot.

great pic!!!
greetings

Ruud van der Lubben, 23.12.2005 alle 7:56

As said in my other comment, i like the tone very much, the rocks in the forground look very lively and have great perspective. The skyline, horizon and sky seem quite heavily edited, nothing against that but i feel that in this case it is a bit overdone, which shows on the left side and in the clouds on the right side.

Moritz Huber, 23.12.2005 alle 7:56

i like the picture, difficult to say why... maybe exactly because it is not true and the parameters are not equalized: on one hand it seems like painted (maybe with a pencil) on the other side you see the feeling effect of the rocks in the foreground... Very special --> looks like an illustration of an old fairy tale book: "and there it was, the castle in middle of nowhere, rock built to fight with the sea. Dominating the landscape and giving all the people that saw it the strange feeling of déjà-vu in a dream or nightmare ?... (sorry for my bad english)
PRO

Kay Wölfle, 23.12.2005 alle 7:56

It´s a good picture. But the toning spoils it. I miss some clarity. contra

Vladimir Danilov, 23.12.2005 alle 7:56

What I really appreciate - a unique style well recognizable. Yesterday, when seing your uploads for the first time I thought that someone would propose one of them for the Gallery. He-he, you should be more patient a little bit.

To be honest - exactly this pic I liked less of all others. 8-))
Sorry, contra.

You should IMHO aplly the same effect to the rocks like you did with the sky, or even in the contrary - not apply it so hard to the sky.

Wen P, 23.12.2005 alle 7:56

I'm rather taken by it. I haven't gotten around to commenting on your style and images, but I've noticed them before. I think your going to have a hard time overcoming the traditionalist landscape photographers here, but I'm just in love with your romanticized work because of your editing technique. Definate PRO from me.

Although I agree w/ the others in that the foreground and background somewhat contradict each other with their style, I still give the image a PRO. You've demonstrated a very unique and talented style, as well as a very captivating image. The foreground imho is absolutely incredible!
Looking very much forward to seeing more of your work.

Stu Good, 23.12.2005 alle 7:57

On first view I thought this was great, after looking more closely I have to agree with those who say the sky is a little over done. The Rocks in the foreground are fantastic and whilst I like the dramatic effects in the sky I feel they are just a little too much which seems to create a strange feeling in the middle third of the photo especially on the left.
I would say that Vladimir is right when he says apply the same effect to the whole photo or don't apply the effect to the sky. For me this falls between two stools.
Sorry contra.

Colin Karpeta, 23.12.2005 alle 7:57

I like it, its different.

Robert Riley, 23.12.2005 alle 7:57

Some people just don't get the plot. Photography is an Art Form, and those who believe its a technical, precise medium are wrong. Have any of you looked at the great Photographers work at all?

Practically every world famous picture, with the possible exceptions in Photojournalism, have been created in the 'Darkroom'.

Ruud, Vlad and Stu, Do you know what a darkroom is?

The Darkroom is now the computer, and the sooner you apppreciate that, the more appreciated your comments may become.

So, Kevin has made adjustments in his 'Digital' darkroom. So has Ruud, so has Vlad, so have I, so has PG, so has everyone except Brad. So what?

Recognise the art and the technique for taking this shot. Despite Ruud, Vlad and Stu, it will make the gallery. PRO+++++++

Paul Grimshaw, 23.12.2005 alle 7:57

I think that there is no problem with obvious editing if it contributes to a 'style' ... Kevin has a 'style' and the editing is part of it ... but careful editing is often required to help keep us planted firmly in the mysticism and surreal environment of the image .. obvious editing degradation can sometimes spoil the feeling of the image ... 'sometimes', I said :0) I like this image very much but whilst most of the image is believable I keep looking at the clouds were they do not appear natural at all and the left side in the cliff area where it seems unfinished ... that aside, I like the imposing power of the rocks and the general feel of the image .. nice to see Kevin's work here again. Regards, Paul.

Dennis Veldman, 23.12.2005 alle 7:57

this could have been so much more beatiful with the clouds untouched. it looks as if a rough dry paint brush has drawn streeks over the clouds.
Sorry Contra although i do like the b&w tones of the stones.

Wen P, 23.12.2005 alle 8:27

Yeah! I was so hoping it would make gallery. I've tried to do this, but not as successful at it as this one. Congrats.

Stu Good, 23.12.2005 alle 10:44

Kevin,
Congratulations on selection for the gallery.

@Robert Riley - Despite my contra vote I appreciate we all have different views and besides if you actually take time to read my comment I also said that I liked the image but I feel the effect is a little overdone.

btw Actually I do know what a dark room is (as I'm sure do Vlad and Ruud) I also know what a pc is as I have worked in IT for almost 20 years. Furthermore my current proficiency with photoshop is such that I could not have produced the effects on this picture but I am still learning.
However I am still entitled to MY OPINION which is precisely what I voiced with my remark and my vote.
But then I know what a reasoned debate is and I also know what the right to an opinion is, DO YOU ? (and I mean an opinion which differs from your own btw ;-0 )

Stu Good, 23.12.2005 alle 10:46

Having just read back my last comment I apologise for hijacking your picture with my rant Kevin.

Regards, Stu.
