This photo has been selected for the gallery with 39 pro- and 17 contra-votes. Congratulations, Milan Bartos :-)

Eddie Maguire, 1.09.2006 alle 21:18

On first appearance this image seems a humble picture. Maybe that is the majic of it. Milan uses a Leica M6 to shoot his work which makes this shot technically difficult to capture. The Leica was the preferred camera of many of the world's great photojournalist, people like Capra and Bresson. This image reminds me strongly of the work of Don McCullin a great photojournalist who reached his zenith in the 1970's and 80's and (in my view) this image would not look out of place hung on a wall beside the work of any of these men.

For me it is one of the most outstanding images I've seen in a very long time and hope that you think so too.

Jamie Hollett, 1.09.2006 alle 21:18

Totally agree with Eddie, a strong & moving image. Worthy to stand up with the likes of Don McCullin.
Strong , bold image with great tones & contrast.
I'm a big fan of B&W & FC members have produced some of the very best i have ever seen. For me this image is a good contender for the gallery.

It's a pro shot for sure, but, I'd like to see a little more detail in the chair (because he is not sitting in it} and more space on the bottom crop by his feet. Pro

I partly agree with Eddy on this one.
What i feel is missing however is a little more detail in the dark areas. The body of the man is falling away in the dark part under the bed, now this would normally not immediately be a problem, but as the white sheets of the bed are immediately behind him it accentuates the loss of detail too much.
