The Redshank is a widespread wader across Europe that likes to breed in wetlands, damp meadows and especially saltmarshes.

It’s a migratory species.
West-European Redshanks winter on coasts around the Mediterranean while the Redshanks wintering here come from northwestern Europe.
So here in Belgium, this bird can be spotted all year round.

As the shot was made in the beginning of the cold month of april that we had, this specimen was still wearing its greyish winter coat
(the summer breeding plumage has a marbled brown colour).

Dutch name : Tureluur
German name : Rotschenkel
Latin name : Tringa totanus

Location : Verdronken land van Saeftinghe

A great shot with excellent accompanying text.
The redshank, which is represented in my observation area, the northern Burgenland, with up to 250 breeding pairs I could never see in winter coat.

now this is exactly the reason why cell phone cameras emit this shutter-click noise when taking a picture: the lady on the escalator will have time enough to spin around, lunge and clobber the indecent photographer that's shameless enough to try and shoot up her legs and skirt! ; )) have to admit, though, that this sneaked shot here is a beautiful picture!! love the details in the bird's elegant gray plumage and how the its long slender legs match its beak perfectly in color! the "glance across the shoulder" is also great! greetings, sabine.

Sehr schön erwischt den Rotschenkel, Mark, auch in seinem Winterkleid ist er hübsch anzusehen! Man muss ihn erst mal finden und sich vorsichtig annähern...
